ASELSI is an acronym for our Guatemalan non-profit ministry, it stands for:

The Association for Equipping the Saints, International. (In Spanish: Asociación Equipando a Los Santos Internacional) This is the general thrust of our work – equipping the national leaders for the work of service through our various programs.

ASELSI has a total staff of 52, including 17 full-time national workers and 16 full-time missionaries.  With this faithful staff we have been able to accomplish the following in 2012:

EBA:  ASELSI Biblical Studies
Our Bible Institute located at ASELSI in Chichicastenango.

    • There were 20 students in the High School Level Program, Bible and Christian Ministry.  8 graduated, 10 will continue to study this year.
    • This year we will begin our College level classes in Pastoral Ministry.

EBA Extensions
International Biblical Studies Extension Program: This currently has 29 extension centers throughout Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela and The United States.

    • 23 locations in Guatemala
    • 1 locations in Ecuador
    • 3 locations in Mexico

      • General Medical Consults
      • Pharmacy
      • Laboratory Exams
      • Prenatal Care
      • Chronic Care: diabetes, hypertension, epilepsy…
      • Milk Program
      • Newborn Exams
      • Gynecology
      • Optometry
      • Center for Physical Motor Assitance (CAF)
      • Orthopedics – 2 visiting orthopedic doctors and a prosthetics specialist come once a month
      • Surgeries for children with physical disabilities
      • Jesus' Little Lambs Center for learning and physically disabled children

Evangelism, personal ministry, and miracles happen every week in the clinic. It is amazing to us how God continues to supply our needs for these programs so that we can offer our services without charging.  This is only possible through our generous donors.

Most of these programs don’t exist anywhere else in the Quiche´ area.  Our clinic had over 15,000 visits during 2012.

Short-Term Teams from the United States and Mexico

ASELSI hosted a total of 34 short-term teams in 2012, and we have already scheduled 22 teams for 2013. We direct each team’s efforts towards our students and their villages, churches/ministries and needy families from our clinic programs.

These groups have a major impact on the health of many families in our area, bringing important teachings and new insight into the Word to our students and local pastors and leaders, reaching 1000’s of children with the Gospel, feeding the hungry, and bringing the clinic from ground level up to the roof level. It always amazes us at how "ordinary people do such extraordinary things" with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

High Quest Discipleship Program

Miguel Angel Morales, a graduate from our Bible Institute and now one of our professors, is Director of this program which has fourteen centers of discipleship and a total of 334 disciples!  This program is sponsored by two brothers from Columbia, MO who have a heart to see men and women go deep into the Word and also into relationships of accountability. This is not something we have ever seen done in our area of Guatemala but it is a program that continues to grow and those who are involved are excited about the personal and spiritual growth in their lives.

Guatemala is located in Central America, just south of Mexico.

. The population is approximately 13.5 million in an area slightly smaller than Tennessee. The bulk of the population is young with 39% of the population under the age of 14. The distribution of wealth is very unequal with 75% of the people living in poverty. The infant mortality rate is 28 per 1000 live births. (the US rate is 6.2.)  Close to 45% of the population is of direct Mayan descent. Many of the Mayans live in the department of El Quiche´ (population 900,000) where the infant mortality rate is even higher.

 Chichicastenango

is located in the mountains of El Quiche´ with a population of over 100,000 in the Chichi area and over 900,000 in the department.  Many women and unschooled children here only speak the native language Quiche´.  The majority of pastors and leaders in Chichi have a third grade education or less.
